More Snow Fun

(People using readers may need to click through to see the videos.)

This video was shot here in Portland on Monday. It's a classic.

Local TV station KPTV played recordings of idiots people who had called 911 to ask about road conditions:
  • "I'm heading out to go grocery shopping. I have chains on, but I was wondering if there was any areas out in Beaverton that I should avoid?"
  • "What's the freeway condition if I don't have chains?"
  • "We have several people from our office here in Portland heading to the Hillsboro area, driving, and I wondered if you can tell me what the driving conditions or what you think, you know, is it going to become unnavigable?"
  • "Hello, this is not an emergency call. Thank you for grabbing it. I have a question for you regarding road conditions, and sorry to bother you with that. I know you have more important things to do."

  • Here are some photos I took today:

I hope all of you who are feeling the effects of this winter weather (which is most of the U.S.) fare well and stay warm!

I do have a post brewing, but with all the Christmas activities and winter weather, I haven't had time to formulate it yet.

    Later, dudes!

    1. Crazy weather. With the convergence zones here, one area gets 24", while just 30 miles south gets 1". At least there are some road crews out. The major roads aren't too bad. Yesterday afternoon it warmed up enough to rain and sleet, then it froze and began snowing on top of that mess. And it's supposed to keep doing this intermittently until Monday. My son's girlfriend flies back to Chicago on Sunday, just when another front is supposed to hit. arggg.

    2. You have the BEST traffic videos :)

    3. My kids saw the traffic videos and immediately said, 'Can we go there?' We have some snow a bit closer here ... will have to go check it out over the break.

    4. Gary - This morning there was NOTHING...just wet. All the previous snow had melted. All the news channels were saying "that's it until the weekend". Then at 9:30 it started coming down in heaps everywhere and they were all like "oh, hmm, I guess we were wrong"...it was funny.

I'm sure it's just as, if not more crazy up there. I'm sorry your sons' girlfriend didn't get to see "a gift God wrapped in green" here in the NW.

      Stay warm and safe!

    5. Thanks Aphra. I think we're just idiots here.

    6. Maria - You're down south, right? Sure you can come here! It's a straight shot up I-5. Of course, I-5 is closed just north of the Cali border...so it might be a better idea to stay closer to home. ;-)

    7. I woke up this morning and had about 20 inches sitting in my driveway waiting for me to take care of. That was just in about a 12 hour period. You know it's bad when they start closing roads in North Idaho.

At any rate, the video was a hoot. Thanks. I needed a good laugh. I would not have wanted to have been one of those last guys on the hill. Like that white car that was stuck while eight others made it up the hill; one from a dead stop next to him.

      Embarraskin

    8. Mike - I loved the one that tried like 8 times before giving up! It's like "take a hint!"

20 inches, huh? Wow, I don't envy you shoveling that. They are saying it *could* do that here on Sunday....but I think it's more likely we'll get an inch of ice. Which is worse? I don't know because I can guarantee there will be idiots out driving in it.

    9. Video is too funny! I sat at my dinning room table and sipped coffee watching cars try to get up the hill beside the house yesterday thankful that I didn't have to try!!!

    10. Donna - I did get out last night, but now it looks like I might not until Monday. They are saying up to a foot of snow tomorrow and then ice....Yuck. Aren't you glad you live here? I think the biggest problem is drivers who don't know their limits on slippery frozen stuff.

    11. That video is hilarious! Looks like around Macadam?

I'm surprised noone hit each other trying to make it up (and back down) that street!

      Stay warm! :)

    12. Cindi - Yup that is down on the south waterfront off Macadam. I'm glad there weren't any accidents, but it was like that all over the city and it's not over yet. They are saying a blizzard tomorrow and ice on Sunday... I'm sure it's all hilarious to Alaskans, but we are just webfoots here!

I hope we don't have any winter nastiness that affects your parents flight out on Friday (I think?).

    13. It's slick enough here, but we are located in a desert and it's F-L-A-T. Huge difference. Though, I'm getting used to the slip and slide sideways and how to counteract so that I don't hit other cars lol!

Yes - they are supposed to be here Friday and I'm just praying that their flight doesn't get cancelled and that whatever the weather there, that they make it on that plane! GAH! Murphy had better play nice Friday lol :)

    14. I'm glad to hear your winter driving skills are adapting. So far it seems that by Friday things should be just rainy around here and your parents should be able to travel.I sure hope so!

    15. No Shoveling for me. After running out of places last year to put the snow while I was plowing it, this year, I broke down and bought a blower. It's so much better!!
