Prayer Request

UPDATE - 3:53 PM:

She is out of surgery now and everything went as expected. They still don't think the mass is cancerous, but they are sending it to the lab to be sure, as is standard practice. She will be in ICU overnight and will remain in the hospital for around 5 days. I will continue to post updates of her progress. The hope is this surgery will correct some issues that she has been recently been experiencing.

Thank you to everyone who has prayed/is praying. Very much. It helps to know you're out there.

****************

My mother-in-law is going in, right about now, for surgery to have a tumor in her brain removed.

At this point, the neurosurgeon says there is nothing indicating it is cancerous, which is very good news; and we are hopeful that turns out to be accurate.

Nonetheless, if you feel so inclined, please pray that all goes as anticipated, and for her safe and complete recovery.

Thanks you guys!

  9. I just posted an update...in case you missed it, everything went well and she is in recovery...they still feel confident the mass is benign, which is good news.

  16. Just checking in to see how things are going today.

When I had my surgery, the recovery was no fun. I had lots of morphine and was pretty groggy the first day. I was in the hospital for five or six days. Great hospital, but still . . . worst experience of my life.

I will pray for minimal discomfort, her ability to rest, sensitivity of the doctors, great nurses, no complications, no traumatic hospital experiences, and a good result on the biopsy of the mass. (Mine accidentally went up the suction tube, so we didn't get a biopsy, but it didn't look cancerous to the neurosurgeon. Years later, it appears that he was right.)

  17. Gary, yeah, they had initially said 3-5 days, but it seems she lost feeling on the left side, so it might be longer and looks like some PT will be in order. I think we're going to see her this evening, and I'll post an update then.

Thank you very much for your prayers and concern. I appreciate it very much.

In other news, my baby nephew is on the way today!

  21. That's great news :)

My SIL who is 30 just had the same surgery last year. Hopefully they will share they same fate -- a clean bill of health and a trip to Hawaii ;)

  22. Thanks Tyler Dawn. So far her recovery is slow but it's still really early.

My inlaws have never been to Hawaii, I don't think. I'll have to suggest that ;-)

  23. Yeah, it's a slow process. For me one of the worst parts of recovery was the wee hours of the night when I couldn't sleep, or worse, had morphine nightmares. I've been praying that her recovery will go smoothly and that she will be able to rest and recovery quickly and fully. I am also praying for your family.

  24. Thank you, Gary. I know you understand.

As of last night she was perking up a bit, trying to smile and trying to talk (though unable) but she was feeding herself a little with her left (unaffected) hand. Communicating through her eyebrows. Not responding to questions well...not seeming to understand that when we ask a question that person is seeking a response from her. Her neurologist says that's ok, tho.

I don't remember if I mentioned it...the tumor was calcified, so it was difficult to remove and because of that, there is a lot more bruising to her brain then they had anticipated, which I guess explains (according to the neurosurgeon) the loss of her right side and the inability to speak because of the location of the tumor.

So there, I talked your ear off....
