Diversity Training, because learning about what it's like to be a woman of another faith is important:
How to Wear Hijab HT Dervish.
Should Christians or Pagans be more offended? As Phil says, John MacArthur obviously doesn't know either group very well:
Emerging Christians are really Pagans according to John MacArthur. HT Phil Wyman.
Videos you REALLY ought to see:
An Arabic Christmas Carol at Matt Stone's place.
Straight No Chasers at Helen's Conversation at the Edge.
Meme's: both Rachel and Mike tagged me. I'll get to those as soon as I can...life has been a bit out of whack the last few days.

Bad Google. Following in the footsteps of the Facebook Beacon fisaco, namely immense amounts of free, albeit bad, advertising, Google has decided to share information without an opt-out. To the best of my understanding, if you use Google Reader and GoogleTalk (also Chat in Gmail), and you have Shared items in GReader, your shared items feed is now AUTOmatically shared with ALL your Talk contacts who also use GReader. They say it only applies to Google Talk, but essentially that would be all your contacts in Gmail who also have Gmail - since Talk (a.k.a. Chat) is built into Gmail. Here's the discussion. Help files HERE and HERE. Your best workaround at this point is to clear everything out of your Shared items until Google apologizes and explains how they are going to remedy it.

  1. Whoa, Erin, I followed that link to read the interview of John MacArthur.
The most eloquent thing I can say is....YUCK!
Who abdicated and made him God?
Sounds all to bloody familiar though....
    The idea that the scripture is the TRUTH and one must defend it at all costs...{sigh}
Did they miss the scripture where Jesus said "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life"?

  2. The gross generalizations make me sad. So if we aren't conservative modern evangelicals, we're Pagans...well, I don't even get where that spectrum comes from, he could have as easily said Buddhist or Animist, for his obviously complete lack of information.

Some people can't accept that there is anything beyond evangelicalism; they think the Word stops with them.

  3. Well, I think I can safely say that many of us in the Pagan community would be quite happy if we could count you amongst our numbers, Erin. ;)

  4. Jarred - You are too sweet for saying that. Even though I don't imagine ever going there, it's nice to know you think I'd be welcome, considering the reputation most Christians have.

  5. Most Pagans don't have nearly as much of a generalized issue with Christians as it is claimed we do, Erin. We just happen to theologically disagree, and have issues with some of the institutions that proclaim their version of the word.

  6. Steve - Well, that's good to know that we don't have as bad a rep as I thought.

I think it's the black/white of much of Christianity that really burns me...because it all depends so much on who you ask (subjective)...which just says to me that no one really has THE answers. Which is exactly what John MacArthur is saying here...that emerging Christianity is contrary to HIS version of Christianity so it must be wrong...or even evil in his mind.

  7. It seems to me that until you can tell me the dress size of the Goddess and what she writes in her diary, claiming that you have the black and white facts about Her is nothing but arrogant.

(Similarly this theory could be translated to other religions as well.)

  8. Steve - Please forgive me, but I have to say AMEN to that sentiment...the same thing DOES go for "other" religions, as well.

Good thought there. Made me laugh, too.

  9. Glad that I could provide you with a laugh as well. After your last post it seems like you could use it.

I will be praying for you as well.
