I missed the boat

A few days ago, Brother Maynard talked about TITHING. I am so frustrated that I missed this post. Argh. It got lost in the jet-lagged half-asleep perusing of blog feeds.

I just got done reading with it, including the comments, and the best thing I can add is:

"Uh, yeah. What he said. That."

Right down to every detail of what he was taught by leadership on the subject. Right down to the little thermometer on the bulletin that said "His tithes and our Offerings." The suggestion of tithing by debit card or automatic payment, or GASP credit card (where the heck do they get off on THAT?) just about made me dizzy. It brough back so many abuses...

Right down to Len Hjalmarson's comment that spoke of Clive Pick. Yeah, Clive was the guy asked to come to our church when tithing was down...I missed it because I was sick, but the next time I showed my face at church, the tape was shoved into my hand by like 4 people. Never found it in me to listen to it. Based on Len's summation, I'm glad.

It comes down to generosity for me. I try to have an open mind about what God wants us to do with our money. Since we're not at a church, we have been a little more creative about giving. We are not saints, we have good months and bad months, and our giving sometimes solely consists of doing something for someone rather than giving cash. But we try to fill a need we see, whether it be time, love or money, if we can.

Sigh. Thanks for listening.
