Sorry...I know it's been almost a week since I've posted, and I have no excuse other than I've been goofing off. Well...that's not entirely true...just had to get the kids back in school, return some Christmas gifts, catch up with my girlfriends by having coffee with them...and mostly playing with my NEW TOY (see sidebar).
Yeah, I grinned and upgraded. Left Sprint for Earthlink. I have heard some Earthlink horror stories...but when I got my 600 two years ago I had heard many horror stories about Sprint as well, and I was a completely satisfied customer...at least until it came time to upgrade and Sprint just couldn't hold onto me. The lame-o deal they offered me through their "New for You every Two" deal did little to keep me sending them my $65 a month. Their deal was just so unreasonably far away from what Earthlink had through Splash Wireless (don't ask me how they can sell it so cheap)...it's not that I don't think the 650 is worth more than what I paid...but I'm a horribly impatient, eager fan, and I just couldn't wait any longer and just couldn't shell out $399...I'll NEVER have that kind of cash. This here is my one real weakness...my vice or bane...whatever you call it...it's my one personal luxury.
I know I may regret Earthlink...they are relatively new to the wireless biz. But they are on Sprint's network, so my coverage should be comparable. So far so good.
Splash's service was awesome...it arrived LITERALLY 44 hours after I ordered it. I mean I went online at 4:30 one afternoon and was told the whole process could take up to a week, but at noon the 2nd day, it was on my doorstep. No kidding.
The port process through Earthlink was awesome too. Went off without a hitch, I was without service for like 12 hours. That was just fine, I was home those 12 hours. Sprint wasted no time disconnecting me...I was gone and forgotten to Sprint within 20 minutes of my activation call to Earthlink. I hear there are some questions about whether EL will keep up with PRL updates, I'll just have to wait and see. Also, there is no insurance available through EL, which is a bummer, lame as most wireless insurance is. I am looking into other options...
My biggest issue with the Treo's is the almost complete lack of feminine protective cases. I'm sorry, but I'm not confident enough to carry around a $500 device without a cover on it, and I'm just not THAT into black, black, black, brown, and navy blue. Red is OK, but what I'm really into is PINK. I had the Uniqase Pink on my 600, but with no equipment insurance, I am wary of having the screen unprotected. So I'm giving the Monaco Aluminum Hard Case a try - in PINK, of course! It should come tomorrow or Monday...I'll let you know what I think. I will miss the stickiness/grippiness of the skin, but there's that darned unprotected screen again!
It's a trade-off...easy access to screen vs. screen protection...easy access to keyboard vs. protection...??? Belt clip an essential...I just can't stand fumbling in my purse for a ringing phone! And I have a personal aversion to flip-style cases like the Speck Lady Flip.
Anyhow, if the Monaco is a bust, I probably will return to the Uniqase or Boxwave Flexiskin Coral (without a belt clip) and get a Seidio Skinned Shield Holster.
So there's my 2 cents about cases.
Oh, and I can't forget the Boxwave Clear Touch Crystal!
Anyhow, the thing is FAST. I mean "Formula One" fast compared to my 600. Switching between apps used to involve a long boring wait...especially when running something like ptunes in the background. Now it's a blink-of-an-eye. Yay! Even the web is Blazing fast! I've updated my APP list in the sidebar...fyi.
I decided to do a clean install of all my software, rather than just upgrading through the backup. That was a royal pain, but well worth it. I spent several days accumulating updated versions of my favorite software, then seeking the registration codes for them (most of my reg codes were in e-mails that I lost when my PC crashed a year ago. (No worries, we now have a RAID server.)
I am totally impressed with the 650...at least as much as I expected, and I am just getting started...I can't wait to explore the limits of what this thing is capable of. I ADORE the hi-res screen...that was the one big drawback to the 600...
And I don't care what anyone says...I've tried them all and Wassup is still the best, cleanest, most functional Today screen/Launcher there is. I mean, if you're into bells and whistles...then go with the fancy-schmancy stuff...I'm just not that hardcore. But if you just want to know where your battery/memory is at, date/time, your e-mails, sms messages, appointments and todos, and launch 15 of your fav apps from one screen...give Wassup a whirl.
That's it for now. Catchya later.
